Cockfighting Bust, 200 Arraigned
WINDER, Ga. (AP) About 200 people have been arraigned on charges related to a raid that followed an eight-month investigation into cockfighting in Barrow
County.
Authorities arrested 236 people on April 18 on misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty and gambling.
Only 200 of them showed up in court Tuesday. Most pleaded guilty to the charges and were fined about $700. Those who did not appear will have warrants issued for their arrest.
Officers rescued more than 100 chickens but found several others dead around the 11-acre property.
Authorities believe pit bulls also were fought there, but none were found during the raid.
Also seized in the raid were $136,000 and 93 vehicles.
