Elizabeth Muto Dons Lettuce Bikini to Promote "Peas on Earth"
For Immediate Release: November 6, 2003
Contact: Michael McGraw 757-622-7382
Norfolk, Va. — Some beauty-pageant winners use their position to promote world peace, but Miss Black USA Elizabeth Muto is promoting whirled peas—and carrots, and tofu—as part of her pro-vegetarian platform. To make sure that her PETA platform is clear at all the promotional appearances that she'll be making, Muto posed in a bikini made of lettuce for photos that she'll sign, "Turn over a new leaf—try vegetarian."
Why does Muto want people to eat their veggies? The standard American diet of meat, dairy products, and eggs—all of which are packed with cholesterol and saturated fat—has Americans packing on the pounds and clogging up their arteries at an alarming rate. High-fat meat-based diets are causing alarming increases in many diseases, including diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and cancer, among African-American women, and cardiovascular disease ranks as the number-one killer of African-Americans.
Animals are also casualties of a meat-based diet. The billions of animals raised every year on factory farms suffer from crowded, filthy housing and painful debeaking, dehorning, branding, and castration—all without anesthetics—and are beaten and prodded to their deaths at slaughterhouses.
"America's meat addiction is responsible for immense animal suffering as well as poor human health," says Muto. "It's time for people to lighten up on animals and lighten themselves up, too."
Muto, an ethical vegetarian, is following in the footsteps of Pamela Anderson, who traded in her trademark red Baywatch swimsuit for a green lettuce-leaf bikini in a 34-foot-tall PETA billboard that debuted in Times Square last spring.

They're distortions, and they ignore other facts like those you DID snip below. You're disingenuous.
Why? Because he's a respected professor in that field? Because his research was NOT funded by sources whom you'd object?
RESTORED...
Any disruption of the land, whether it be to farm or to build subdivisions, reduces the amount of land left for other animals, resulting in the deaths of many. And Davis, a professor of animal science at Oregon State who grew up on a farm, says as a child he saw animals killed by the routine operation of farm machinery, so there's no way to have a bloodless farm.
"If they say they don't want to kill an animal so they can eat, I think their conclusion is misguided because they are killing animals so that they can eat that vegetarian diet," Davis says. "Those animals happen to be a little bit invisible. They are not as obvious to the man on the street as killing a steer in the slaughterhouse. But nonetheless, it's still going on...."
Davis admits he doesn't really know how many animals are lost each year to agriculture, but he suspects it runs in the millions. Not many farmers do a before-and-after survey, so the best data are really just estimates....
It's not a perfect world... but perhaps with a lot more thought and cooperation, a better alternative might be found. But unless someone comes up with a brilliant idea, whether you eat meat or just fruit and vegetables, you're going to have to share somewhat in the bloodletting.

Deal with the facts. Stop snipping them.
Deal with the point of his study, idiot. He found less harm was done to animals on a diet consisting of grazed ruminants and vegetables.
He did that. Maybe you'd know that if you'd take your blinders off, shithead.
They live according to lies, the peddle lies. When people find out about the lies, PETA is hurt. If PETA wishes to cause any good in the world, they should start with themselves and their message.
That's the price of my anonymity. Or her celebrity. Take your pick.

Sorry, fool, that one won't work. I bet I have a lot more black people in my family than you ever will. I also bet my skin has a lot more melanin than yours.
Do you consider being run over by tractors, sliced by implements, poisoned with pesticides and herbicides, drowned in irrigation, etc., to be humane?
Non sequitur. The issue is that animals will continue to die for vegetarian meals.
I think you're quite confused over the issue AND Davis' research. Perhaps you should refresh your glue fume-addled memory:

Where the fuck do you get that idea? I despise the Nazis, and all forms of racism. Members of my family gave their lives to overthrow that abhorrent regime.

I hate them, too. But finally we have a beauty winner to take a COURAGEOUS stand on something. Not just another nauseating self-righteous Ms. America do-gooder telling researchers and beleagured government budget-writers to throw more money at curing some disease.
<lots of distortions and half-truths snipped>
I do not agree with all these health claims. That is why I never advocate a vegetarian diet for the person's health. Unless of course they bring the subject up first, or challenge me on it, then I might add that a vegetarian or vegan diet IN GENERAL is somewhat healthier than a meat-based one.
These are the strongest and most solid facts about the true consequences of the meat industry. I decided not to snip this paragraph.
Immediately this Davis person is biased. Everything else he has to say on the subject is either worthless or useless generic truths.
<snipped>
That's right. So are you defending Saddam Hussein? So outlawing meat may not be perfect. It may offend some good people who should not be offended. But, as Davis himself says, the world is not perfect, so humans cannot help but hurt or offend other humans. But some of us do a lot better job of hurting animals and humans LESS than others.
Another example of a useless generic truth.
Rather than just say that we cannot estimate how many animals, microscopic organisms are killed in just plowing fields, he might have at least done some ORIGINAL work and ESTIMATED the number!
No -- they don't have to stop saying something just because YOU and your anti-animal promoters say PETA has to. More proof that anti-animal promoters deliberately oppose the free speech of others with whom they disagree.
Yeah. And the meat addicts have Joseph Stalin, and the Spanish Inquisition, and millions upon millions of Nazis, and nearly every brutal regime that has walked this planet.
Let's see YOUR ugly face and body on display here. Let's see how many women will want to have sex with YOU. I'm sure Pamela Anderson, not even a lesbian, attracts more women than you!

I loathe beauty contests, but she really deserves to lose.
<snip>
You should have a look at the high-fat offerings at afv this week. Most diets involve deep frying foods, even tofu which already has over 50% of calories from fat. Many others are desserts made with margarine (saturated fat!) and sugars. How can all those deep fried and sugary vegan foods be healthier than someone's 5g of fat BK chicken baguette?
Your cut-n-paste job also fails to note that most Americans tend to eat low-fat meats and dairy products. Compare healthy diets containing meats to healthy vegetarian diets, or compare unhealthy meat diets to unhealthy vegetarian diets. Stop with apples:oranges.
Typical activist denial of the antecedent. Animals are also casualties of a purely vegan diet. Note:
Any disruption of the land, whether it be to farm or to build subdivisions, reduces the amount of land left for other animals, resulting in the deaths of many. And Davis, a professor of animal science at Oregon State who grew up on a farm, says as a child he saw animals killed by the routine operation of farm machinery, so there's no way to have a bloodless farm.

PETA activists must cease and desist with their lies. As noted above and in the links that followed, diets are comparable in deaths and casualties.
Now THERE's a role model. Fake breasts (since removed), fake nose, other surgical enhancements, bleached hair, IQ well below 100, and an abusive dope fiend ex-husband.
Her screwy political beliefs are even more phony than her surgically-altered appearance.

I'll restore Davis's admission. And he still has not disproven that vegetarians kill FAR fewer animals, and in a far quicker humane way, through agriculture to maintain a vegetarian diet than a meat-based one.
If THAT is not the issue -- THEN WHAT IS YOUR COMPLAINT ABOUT ARAs?? Answer: you have none.
Which choices are you talking about? Are you talking about a choice between HUMANS eating animals who graze versus humans not eating animals who graze? Or were you and Davis confusing the issue and comparing the effects of one kind of animal grazing versus some other kind of animal?
What a bullshit lie, and you know it. Let's see you go back in time and start an earth-friendly pro-vegetarian health food store in Nazi Germany. The Nazis, whom you so desperately wish to emulate, would have you murdered on the spot.
In your dreams. Give me your girlfriend's phone number. I hate to think of her wasting her time with you. Let her have sex with a REAL man.
