Sarah said above (in a different thread):
"I change recipes from books quite a lot as my husband is gluten intolerant so finding vegan gluten-free recipes is very difficult."
I thought a new thread was more appropriate to reply to this. I eat mostly vegan food, but have to follow a yeast-free diet. A lot of vegan food, especially cheese substitutes etc, contain yeast so it can be quite hard.

I am looking for a book that is an objective evaluation of the nutritional value/lack of value of dairy products (in particular milk and cheese)
I just read Milk: The Deadly Poison by Robert Cohen. I feel this book lacks objectivity and that Mr Cohen gets too emotional and that I cannot credibly use this book as a reference for non-vegs who ask about dairy (I don't consume milk or cheese myself)

I just *love* this topic. It's a real delight to return to it from time to time.

Can anyone here name a famous bodybuilder or athlete who gained prominence in his or her area while practicing a vegetarian/vegan lifestyle, and whose physical prowess can be said to have been obtained while practicing such a diet?
And mind you, when I say "athlete," I'm not talking about a golfer or an egg-toss champion; rather, I'm looking for someone who excels in a strength-intensive field of

I came here looking for some intelligent debate but all I found was everyone insulting each other. "Fuckwit" and "fucktard" appeared to be your favourites. And this, on top of the usual nonsense-posts that exist in discussion boards. It seems I will have to go elsewhere to find information and discuss ethical issues regarding vegetarianism.
Apologies to all those who post sensibly and try to make

As you may know 'Mad Cow' is a Prion infection of the nervous system in
Mammals. It's simply a protein that has the ability to cause infected tissue to replicate itself after a latent or dormant period of sometimes decades. When the Prion becomes truly infectious the replication causes holes, literally or "spongiform" in the victims brain to form. You _cannot_ cook the meat enough to rid the pr

if there was a moment of decision, or realization, an epiphany if you will, could you relate it? mine was your basic: i love animals, i care for animals actively -- although i had not yet begun to work at a wildlife rehab center at the time -- and death frightens the hell out of me. it was a naive decision at the time, not involving any thought of the suffering of animals before untimely de

Hi all, I`ve been lacto-ovo-vegetarian (or whatever u call it, no meat, no fish, but milk and eggs) for 10 years (I`m 28), and for long it had just been a question of taste ( i didn`t feel like eating meat or fish, that`s all). Thus, I was hardly concerned with ethical or environmental commitments regarding veg*ism. Things have changed since, and I`m now looking for a

Vegetarian Muslims need venues and ways to network with one another. This is one such venue.
Muhammed reportedly said that it is better to eat milk than to eat meat. But even if Muhammed was a lactovegetarian, more and more Muslims are discovering veganism. Wherever vegetarian Muslims are on the spectrum, and regardless of the rationale, this is a good place to make friends and discuss co

Eating Meat Wastes Our Resources
When it comes to resource and energy wastage, meat products are a class by themselves.
Scientists compute the energy costs of foods by the value of the raw materials consumed in the production of that food. Frances Moore Lappe reports: Interior and Commerce produced startling figures showing that the value of raw materials consumed to prod

I want to become vegetarian. I used to be a big meat eater but going to Whole Foods I see so many organic/free range type meats. My question, if I go vegetarian will I still be allowed to eat this? I know I may be able to give up beef but not chicken or fish but if I can go to free range beef and still be veggie it would help so much.
